Terms of trade
What you are buying, when you pay, when you get your money back, and which laws apply. Written to be read rather than skipped.
1. Who we are
NZ Double Glazing is a trading name of Kauri Ridge Holdings Limited, NZBN 9429050000017. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that entity trading as NZ Double Glazing, and "you" means the person buying from us. Our address is Level 1, 12 Kōwhai Lane, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021. Email: hello@nz-double-glazing.co.nz. Phone: 09 887 0170.
2. The estimator
The calculator on this site produces an estimate, not a quote or an offer. It multiplies the glass area you enter by rates published by third parties, applies published per-window minimums, and shows a low–high range. Every rate shows its source and the date we last checked it. We do not warrant that any job can be done at any figure the estimator shows; only a written quote does that.
3. The measure and quote
- The measure fee is $149 including GST, payable when you book.
- For that fee, a glazier we contract measures every window at your property, checks whether your frames suit the work, and we send you one fixed written quote.
- The quote is sent within 5 working days of the measure and is valid for 30 days from the date on it.
- The measurements and the written quote are yours. You are free to use them elsewhere.
- The $149 is credited in full against the price of any job you sign with us within 60 days of the measure.
4. Refunds on the measure fee
- Full refund if we cannot offer you a measure appointment within 10 working days of your payment.
- Full refund if you cancel 48 hours or more before the appointment.
- Full refund if we do not send your written quote within 5 working days of the measure.
- No refund after the measure has taken place, because the service has been delivered: you keep the measurements and the written quote. It remains creditable against a job signed within 60 days.
- Refunds go back to the card or account you paid from, normally within 5 working days.
5. Accepting a quote, and the deposit
- A job starts when you accept a written quote and we both sign a written contract.
- A deposit of 25% of the contract price is payable on acceptance. It pays for your sealed units, which are made to your measurements.
- The balance is payable on practical completion of the work.
- Deposits are refundable up to the point your units are ordered. After that they are not, because made-to-measure glass cannot be resold; what happens then is set out in your contract.
- We may offer bank transfer for the deposit and the balance. Card payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
6. Who does the work
We subcontract the manufacture and installation to a retrofit glazier we contract in your area. We tell you who they are before they attend. Your contract is with us, and we remain responsible to you for the work under that contract.
7. What is not included
- Repairs to frames, sills, sashes or surrounding structure, unless the quote says otherwise.
- Structural strengthening required to carry heavier units.
- Removing, storing or refitting curtains, blinds or pelmets.
- Painting, staining or decorating after the work, beyond making good.
- Scaffolding, unless the quote lists it.
- Building consent fees, where a consent turns out to be required.
Anything discovered at the measure or during the work that falls outside the quote is priced as a variation and agreed with you in writing before it is done.
8. Consents and the Building Code
Window work in an existing dwelling is often exempt from building consent under Schedule 1, Exemption 8 of the Building Act 2004, subject to conditions including that the window being replaced has not failed its 15-year durability requirement. Exempt work must still comply with the Building Code. We will tell you at the measure if we think your job needs a consent; your council makes the final determination, and obtaining a consent where one is needed is your responsibility unless the contract says otherwise.
9. Contracts, disclosure and the checklist
The Building Act requires a written contract for residential building work of $30,000 or more including GST, and requires the contractor to give the homeowner a disclosure statement and the MBIE consumer protection checklist before the contract is signed. We use a written contract and provide the disclosure statement and checklist on every job, regardless of value.
10. Your consumer rights
The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies to the goods and services we supply to you as a consumer, and nothing in these terms limits or excludes those guarantees. The Fair Trading Act 1986 also applies: if anything on this site is inaccurate or misleading, tell us and we will correct it. Where you are acquiring goods or services for the purposes of a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply.
11. Prices and GST
All prices on this site and in our quotes are in New Zealand dollars and include GST. Published market rates are third-party figures shown for information, with their source and check date; they are not our prices.
12. Cancellation and access
- You may cancel a measure appointment; see clause 4 for refunds.
- You need to give safe access to every window on the day, and let us know about dogs, alarms, asbestos or anything else that affects the visit.
- If we or our glazier cannot get access on an agreed day and you have not told us at least 24 hours in advance, we may charge the reasonable cost of the wasted visit.
13. Liability
Except for liability we cannot limit by law, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act, our liability for any claim relating to a job is limited to the contract price for that job. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
14. Complaints
Tell us first, in writing, and we will respond. Email hello@nz-double-glazing.co.nz. If we cannot resolve it, the Building Act's dispute options for residential building work remain open to you, and so does the Disputes Tribunal.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The terms that apply to your job are the ones published when you accepted your quote, and we keep a copy. This version is dated 15 September 2026.
16. Governing law
New Zealand law applies, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
